Historically, our Mission has been focused on families traveling to Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh. Most of these Children are traveling from outside the Pittsburgh area to receive research cancer treatments. However, we are in the process of reevaluating our mission to extend our assistance to additional families.
Where Does The Money Go?
In 2013 (our first full year of existence) we provided $23,000 in assistance to 15 families which consisted of fuel, meals, hotels, and airfare related to travel to Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh (CHP). We send these funds as they are requested by CHP staff directly to Children's Hospital Foundation and they distribute the funds on our behalf to the families in need. Our Board of Directors are actively working with key sponsors to lower the cost of these services so that we can stretch our funding as far as possible.
How Do We Qualify Need?
We rely on physicians and social services staff members to identify families who meet our funding criteria. Our focus in on the most needy families where travel might otherwise not be possible without our assistance.
